Due Date- Friday the 13th, August- "Superstitions"- Do you stay in bed on Friday the 13th? Do you walk around a ladder, avoid a black cat crossing in front of you? If you step on a crack, will you break your mother's back? Tell us about any superstitions that you have. Maybe you have an original one. If you don't have any superstitions yourself, then tell us about any others you've heard of. Give us your opinion on superstitions.
I am not especially superstitious but I think I've inherited a few superstitious habits from my mother. For example, if I spill salt, I am compelled to toss some over my shoulder but I forget if it's supposed to be my right or left shoulder. If I speak of the good health of members of my family, I won't tempt fate so I knock on wood. Do I walk under ladders? No, but that's just being practical. There are a lot of superstitions in sports. When my daughter was a softball pitcher and she was winning a lot of games in a row, she wouldn't change her socks. I wonder if anyone has ever heard of this one that my friends and I did when we were little kids. If we were riding in a car and we crossed railroad tracks, we would lift up our feet. Wonder what that was all about? I do have another habit that may be more of an idiosyncrasy than a superstition: I prefer even numbers so for example, if I'm turning the volume up on my TV, I like to set it at an even number rather than an odd. I catch myself doing that a lot. I've never had a problem with Friday the 13th. In fact, we moved into our home 25 years ago on that date and we've had nothing but good luck here. (Knock on wood!) I must say, I'd be hesitant to get on a plane that was "Flight 13" but I'm not a brave flyer anyway. Finally, I love all cats, including black cats and Aladdin and Orion (Wynne's adorable black cats) can cross my path anytime!
