Last summer, we had a "Science Project" in which we all grew an herb. This year, I'd like you to try growing a fruit or a vegetable. Buy a small plant at the nursery and plant it in the ground or a pot. Take a photo of your tiny little seedling and then another as it grows up. Tell us all about it: it's Latin name, the growing conditions it prefers, your trials and tribulations in growing it and perhaps a recipe for once it is harvested.

Thanks, Irene!

My first ripe tomato! I came back out to pick it after
downloading these photos and it was gone! Vanished!
Dylan,
the tomato loving Golden Retriever, strikes again!
I've planted 2 types of tomatoes (Lycopersicon esculentum):
Better Boy which produces plump tomatoes that often
weigh a pound or more and La Roma Gold that bears a
beautiful golden roma-type tomato.
Both are perfect in salads, salsas and sauces!

My first Bell Pepper. I'm going to let it turn red.
(If Dylan doesn't get to it first!)

The Latin name is Capsicum annuum.
What's the difference between a red and green pepper?
About 2 weeks!

These are serrano peppers that Jeff uses in his salsa.
Thanks, Karol!
Read about how hot they are here!

Strawberries. I pick and eat them as they ripen!
A member of the Rosaceae (Rose) family,
the botanical name of strawberries is Frugaria,
which in Latin means 'fragrance.'
The Strawberry Patch has interesting facts!

Anyone want any lemons?
Citrus Limon
Thanks, Irene!

Thanks, Connie!
