* My favorite dress
was Charlize
Theron's Christian Dior gown by John Galliano. It was
a ruffled pale silvery grey dress with a long train. I loved
her wavy updo and was happy to see her hair a pretty brown
with blonde highlights instead of the black she had at the
Golden Globes. She looked like a princess!

* Speaking of princesses,
I thought Natalie
Portman looked amazing! I loved her hair, the diamond
headband and her makeup. She is stunning, like a young Audrey
Hepburn. However, I do have a slight prejudice against gowns
that look too much like costumes. Her gown by Lavin, as
beautiful as it was, looked like it was a Greek goddess
costume out of Troy. Another costumey dress was Salma
Hayek in a Flamenco inspired gown by Prada. Having said
that, she was still one of the most gorgeous stars there.
* Halle
Berry, who wore that regrettable high/low boob gown
at the Golden Globes, went with another asymmetrical look
but this time pulled it off in a iridescent taupe silk chiffon
gown with vintage embroidered skirt by Atelier Versace.
I loved her long hair! I'd say she was my second favorite.
* Hillary
Swank. Well, I'm going to go against the consensus here
who seemed to love her dress. I know it popped Jeff's eyes
but I thought it was a little too revealing, see-through
and clingy in the front but more than that, it looked like
it was on backwards. However, that couldn't be because there
was no
back. I thought the neckline looked uncomfortably high
and it didn't seem to fit under the arms. I didn't care
for the dark blue jersey (jersey for heavens sake!) material.
Let's face it, what everyone really liked about that ultramodern
dress was the body underneath it! She made that dress look
spectacular! I much preferred her beautiful copper dress
when she won for "Boys Don't Cry." Also in blue,
Virginia
Madsen, in an electric blue Versace gown that was a
little too mermaid for my taste and Kate
Winslet in Badgley Mischka that was a beautiful vibrant
blue. I liked that she took a risk with more color.
* Red Hot: I thought
young Emmy
Rossum in a strapless bordeaux Ralph Lauren gown looked
wonderful with her stunning ruby and diamond necklace and
matching earrings. I wish they had let her sing the song
from Phantom instead of Beyonce who had three songs. By
the way, Beyonce
looked fab in her Atelier Versace black silk velvet strapless
gown. And did you get a load of those earrings by Lorraine
Schwartz?
And not: A big miss in red was Renee
Zellweger wearing a raspberry silk strapless by Carolina
Herrera. She looked too pale, too thin and I didn't like
her dark hair nor the corseted detail on the dress bodice
nor the white lacy detail on the train. Another miss in
dark hair was Drew
Barrymore. Her black dress was just too old and boring
for the young and usually exuberant Drew.
* Other trends were
a trio of "Golden Girls:" Cate
Blanchett in Valentino Couture Oprah
in Versace and Penelope
Cruz in Oscar de la Renta. I thought Cate pulled off
the look best with her soft blonde curls. Penelope should've
lost the big bow on the butt! I don't think Oprah looked
her best.
* Hot Moms: Julia Robert
looked great in a black gown but I haven't found a photo
of it online but I heard it was a Dolce and Gabanna. Motherhood
gave her a well-endowed chest but not so for Gwyenth
Paltrow. She wore a pretty Stella McCartney gown that
just didn't work on the top. Her long hair and makeup looked
great, though.
* Bad Hair Days: I
didn't like Laura
Linney's Mohawk inspired hairdo. I had mixed feelings
about her dress. It looked good on her but I felt that the
"tattered" skirt would be better in a production
of Les Miz. Scarlett
Johansson wore a Fred Leighton 19th-century tiara but
what was with her fuzzy grandma hair?
Men who had bad hair days: Antonio Banderas and Johnny Depp.
Johnny
Depp's tux looked like something you'd rent for a 70's
wedding. I will forgive him for his gold teeth because he's
filming his next Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Antonio!
You are so gorgeous and you sang wonderfully, but please
wash your hair next time!
* Worst Dressed: Without
a doubt, Antonio Banderas wife, Melanie
Griffith. I can't believe that was a Versace gown- it
looked more like something Bob Mackie would design for Cher
in Las Vegas!
