Due Date- Wednesday, September 29- "Boob Tube Babies" This topic was suggested by Sadie (from England). "Write about a favourite TV programme that you loved either when you were very little or teenagers and how it affected you: Did you dress in a way that makes you cringe when you look back at it? Legwarmers? Need I say more? How about the Farrah flip from Charlie's Angels? You could also decorate a page in graphics that reflect said programme, and hunt down the midi..." Sadie got this idea after finding a site about the TV show she loved in the 80's, Fame. I did a quick Internet search and found a couple of sites that might help:

~ Gidget ~

~ Sally Field ~

Gidget was based on the 1959 movie of the same name which starred Sandra Dee in the role as Gidget. The sitcom, starring Sally Field, was first seen in September of 1965 and centered around Francine Lawrence. Francine was her real first name but everyone called her Gidget. "Gidget" was her nickname which came from "girl midget" since she was a tiny, young thing. She lived with her father, Professor Russ Lawrence, who was a widower in Southern California. Stories revolved around Gidget and her life as a teenager growing up on the Pacific coast and surfing at Malibu beach.

Sally was a popular, natural actress, lively and personable, and in fact on "Gidget" she would talk directly to the camera as if the TV audience were comprised of good pals spending the night for a slumber party. "Toodles" was her signature good-bye.

Can you guess why I loved this show? A young surfer girl growing up in Southern California and just my age! Sadly, it only lasted one season due to being on the air against The Beverly Hillbillies. They did make 32 episodes and they were rerun during the summer. Sally went on to "The Flying Nun" and success in the movies, even winning an Academy Award! We like her, we really like her!
