~ Falling for Autumn ~

Due Date: Wednesday, November 15- "Falling for Autumn" Living in Southern California all my life, I never really understood the obsession with autumn that so many people have. But after a recent October trip to Colorado, I finally get it! So, tell me what it is about this time of year that you love so much? Tell us about the harvest season or holiday traditions in your corner of the world. Maybe share a favorite fall recipe that puts you in that autumnal spirit. Do you live in a place that has gorgeous fall colors? Share a photo so we can all be leaf peepers. If you celebrate Thanksgiving, share the must have items for your family dinner. Celebrate Guy Fawke's Day? Educate us about that. Let's celebrate this bountiful time of year. Thanks to Sadie and Connie for these homework suggestions.

I've never quite understood what all the fuss about autumn was... until our recent trip to Colorado! I've never seen anything more spectacular than the autumn leaves and snowcapped mountains of Colorado. An Indian Chief named Chief Niwot said of an area of Colorado, "People seeing this valley will want to stay, and their staying will be the undoing of it's beauty." I know I was ready to go find a real estate agent so we'd never have to leave!

Here are a few photos from our October 2006 trip

~ Thanksgiving Traditions ~

Thanksgiving is a uniquely American tradition. I really think it's one of the most special holidays that we have. The day before Thanksgiving is the busiest travel day of the year. Everyone comes home for Thanksgiving. It's a special family time and a time to come together and share a very special meal. I love how we have certain "must haves" with our feast. Turkey, stuffing, yams, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberries, pumpkin pie... Have you ever tried to find green beans at the market if you're shopping at the last minute? No where to be found. Everyone's making that dish with the mushroom soup and french fried onions. And the yam casserole with mini marshmallows on top. Of course, every family has their own unique contributions that without, Thanksgiving would not be complete. Maybe it's that special oyster stuffing or a pecan pie...
